Hurry, and grab a seat in the church. Today, Deacon Serpentwithfeet is presiding over devotional services, sharing Black queer love testimonies from his new album with the congregation.

“Same Size Shoe” and “Fellowship,” featuring Sampha and Lil Silva, are two of the early hymns rendered from the Baltimore-born artist’s divine new songbook. One talks about his preference to exclusively date Black men, while the other revels in the appreciation for the clarity gained in his ‘30s.

Serpent gets some vocal help from the queen of wonky funk Nao on “Heart Storm.” Co-produced by Justus West, the choral-style duet all about the change of forecast when two lovers engage with one another.

Deacon, the follow-up to 2018’s Soil, also includes standouts like the at-sea dance number “Sailors Superstition” and “Wood Boy,” a suggestive song that gives new meaning to big d*ck energy.

With a new album out, Serpent teams up with Bandsintown to put on an intimate live show from Los Angeles. It broadcasts tonight at 9 p.m. EST. Check it out here
