Arguably the brightest, most audacious of Nike’s recent “City Special” collection, last month’s Los Angeles-honoring, orange-adorning Air Max 97 was a fan favorite. The bright orange hues paired with limited black accents throughout immediately evoked memories of bright sunny Summer days that only Southern California can deliver. But if you weren’t a fan of the all-out orange — or if you simply despise LA (as an SF Giants fan, I do too) — then this alternate option may be for you.
Arriving void of any callouts to the City of Angels, the pair arrives in a closely aligned range and black build. With the SoCal option opting for a breathable canvas construction, this pair reverts to its heritage mesh and leather build — It too is tonal in an almost identical shade of orange. Midsoles and Air supports return in orange, while outsoles arrive inverted, seen here in black rubber with pops of orange at the toe and heel. Completing the design is a handful of black embroidered Swooshes, and black insoles glazed with a sunrise gradient Nike Air motif.
A release date for this reflective Nike Air Max 97 is yet to be revealed, but you should expect to see pairs hit select stores and Nike.com over the coming weeks.
