It’s no question that Marvin Gaye is one of Raheem DeVaughn’s musical influences. To celebrate the late Washington, D.C. native’s birthday, DeVaughn has released a video for his song “Marvin Used To Say.”

The Adebayo Umojadirected video features DeVaughn performing the song, as pictures and video footage of Black Lives Matter protests are shown in between.

Speaking on the video, DeVaughn said, “This time-period piece of visual art is a tribute to the musical icon and legend Marvin Gaye.”

He added, “In celebration of his birthday and artistry, I recorded the song ‘Marvin Used To Say’ back in 2020. Later this year I plan to release an entire album in honor of him, as well.”

“Marvin Used To Say” appears on DeVaughn’s latest album, What A Time To Be In Love, which was produced entirely by The ColleaguesThe concept album received recognition on Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2020.
