Bio: Akasha Lawrence Spence is the Founder & Principal Designer of Fifth Element—a conscientious real estate development
firm fortifying historically undercapitalized communities through real property ownership.
As a former state representative, Akasha’s strong advocacy background serving underrepresented
communities and small business owners inspired her to lead the charge for
The Oregon Cares Fund for Black Relief and Resiliency, an historic 62 million dollar investment
fortifying the state’s Black people and families, small businesses and nonprofits.

The work Akasha continues to engage in, in community, in politics and in business stems
from her belief that when communities have ownership and control of their resources, they
are more resilient, self-sufficient and dynamic.

Everything she does whether as an entrepreneur, designer, writer, artist, policy maker, advocate,
civic activist, or embodied being is an act of liberation rooted in the actualization of a sovereignty born from economic justice that is reparative, intersectional, and generative.
