It’s been a minute since we saw the Huarache in its natural form, with the Huarache EDGE, Huarache Drift, and self-lacing Adapt Huarache carrying the torch for the silhouette in recent times. In fact, the last time we saw the OG build was back in late 2019/early 2020 as part of the Nike Air Max 1/Huarache crossover pack. Before that, it was absent for a while, too. But for the sneaker’s 30th anniversary in 2021, you can expect to see it return in a big way — and it’s kicking off next month with the return of the OG Nike Air Huarache “Scream Green”
When the colorway first debuted back in 1991, the Nike Huarache was an immediate head-turner. You can put that down to Tinker’s audacious-yet-inspired design, with neon-popped neoprene inner booties, plastic rear clips, and crisp white leather and nylon. Its design was so futuristic at the time, it even labeling itself as the signature sneaker of television character Buck Rogers — a 25th Century James Bond.
Arguably the most popular Huarache colorway ever, Nike brought back the OG “Scream Green” back in 1999 and again in 2014. Four years later, the Swoosh swapped up the colors for an OG-inspired release, but now it’s back to its original blocking for its big 30th birthday bash.
APAC retailers have penciled in a release for February 19th, while other regions around the globe are yet to announce their arrangements.
