Currently celebrating a half-century of use, the Nike Swoosh logo has become one of the world’s most recognizable symbols. Though it comes from humble beginnings — it was designed by a friend of a friend — and has undergone a handful of changes over the years. And in this, the 50th anniversary year, Nike is celebrating the variations through a special “First Use” collection of classics. Now it’s time for the Air Max 97 to join the party, with this, the first of many expected colorways to come.

Just like the previously-previewed options from the collection, this Air Max 97 shares some communal traits; an identification of June 18th, 1971 as the trademarked date on the medial side, retro tongue tags, golden Swoosh mounted with a solitary diamond, and collection-specific insoles. And although the series has seen some colorful options, like the University Blue Air Max 90 or the Uni Red Nike Dunk High, most have appeared in muted tans and whites. This Air Max 97 “First Use” follows the latter’s lead, but brings in new colors of deep royal and red, as well as new branding elements like reeling branding along with the lower overlays.

Though a release date did not accompany the official image set below, you should expect to see pairs of the Nike Air Max 97 “First Use” arrive at select retailers soon. While we await further details, grab a quick look at the pair here below, and be sure to keep our eyes glued to our official Twitter account for updates.
